Welcome to The French Maternal School

The French Maternal School (FMS) is a small, independent nursery school located in Georgetown and serves the French, international and diplomatic communities of the Washington, D.C. area. It offers French immersion programs for children ages 18 months to 6 years old (nursery, pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten) and educates them to reach a high level of academic performance in a nurturing environment. The FMS program takes its inspiration from the French National Curriculum and is fully licensed by the Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE).

Early childhood is an unparalleled period in a human being’s life. The first five years prepare the child to function in the world and form the foundation of their identity. That is why it is important to invest today in a quality education that combines learning core fundamentals with the French language.

At FMS, our daily work is to help children build their linguistic foundation in French while meeting their social, emotional, cognitive, and physical needs. We know that children born into multilingual households learn quickly and need to grow within a structure that understands them and can offer a French-style curriculum, qualified teachers, and a differentiated pedagogical approach.

The goal is to prepare children for the challenges of primary school while giving them the linguistic advantage of the French language.
